Student Leryan Costaine wins VET award

In the VET in Schools Student Awards (part of the [WA Training Awards][1]), Leryan was the Independent Schools category winner of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award.

An awarded student

While he was not the overall state winner, this is a great recognition of Leryan’s hard work at Wongutha. He has already achieved a Certificate I in Front End Loader / Backhoe operations and is now working on Certificate I in Construction.

Leryan was also a semi-finalist in the [Nescafe Big Break][2] awards for Australia. He was one of 400 semi-finalists chosen from over 4,000 entries with very diverse ideas and ambitions for their future. Leryan and a group of classmates plan to have written letters to their Indigenous role models, searching out their keys to success. They plan to have a book published of the letters they have received in response.
